i'll write this up in a bit, but i'm just plugging a chronological hole, here.
briefly: from about june 2004 to about june 2005, i filled in on bass for a band called throatmotor, on the request of the previously mentioned guitarist jon (
jasonparent.bandcamp.com/album/to-spin-inside-dull-aberrations), who was playing second guitar for the band. there may have been a couple of bass parts recorded, but they didn't show up anywhere, to my knowledge. nor did i contribute any material. in total, there was roughly 10 gigs.
throatmotor did not make music that i liked very much, and my involvement in the project was strictly on the basis of doing a favour for a friend. it was only supposed to be for a gig or two, but it dragged on. eventually, i had to tell them that i wasn't into what they were doing, and that they would need to find somebody that actually liked the style of music they were making. they didn't take that very well.
i did make one attempt to present some material, but it was not well received. there is a fragment here from 2005 that will need to be further developed:

as i found the style of music that throatmotor made (overly syrupy pop punk) to be rather boring, i attempted to salvage it by writing somewhat intricate bass parts. some of the bass parts added original riffs to the tracks, whereas others attempted to introduce harmonic counterpoints by approaching the bass in the way that a cellist might. these parts are all lost, but i made a conscious attempt to write a similar bass part for "to spin inside dull aberrations" when i revisited it in 2014. if you want to know what my bass parts sounded like for throatmotor, the best thing to check out is the link to that track:

the above picture was taken outside of zaphod's beeblebrox in late 2004, where we were set to open for a band from toronto that had something to do with somebody named kelly.
