about

i started working on this near the end of recording for "ostrich" - it came out of a guitar jam with the drum machine, which i was programming for that song.

it was immediately clear to me that this was a stronger song, so i substituted it for the previous one. but the recording is really entirely centred around this guitar jam that i had by myself and really has no conceptual link to sarah at all....

the beginning part is constructed out of random live piano adlib and an experiment using a buggy real-time granular synthesis program called granulab that tended to lose sync with the soundcard on certain operations, and create these lovely skittered static noises.

the second part is the guitar jam, built up a bit and double timed twice. the third part is sort of a sample collage, built up by layering a heavily modified bass part on top of itself several times and filled out a little. this opens up into another sounder piece, to replace the one i left in the previous track; but, this sounder piece is meant to create more of an impression of floating through clouds or maybe flying through space.

this track ends up as a component of my eighth symphony, and eventually on my ninth record, {e} (inri08x).

written and recorded in december, 2002.

about

jessica murray Windsor, Ontario

this is the archive for the artist formerly known as jason parent and now known as jessica murray.

the music here has shifted dramatically over many years, from roots in punk/grunge through to experimental synth pop and into a type of kitchen sink post-rock with heavy electronics. the only consistency throughout is a lack of consistency, guitars and an impressionist aesthetic. "blender rock".
