about

when the idea of performing as an acoustic duo was decided upon, it became clear that much of the recorded material was unsuitable for this purpose. the original version of this track would have been painfully boring to watch as a duo, with the music consisting of nothing more than a basic bass line. so, i (jessica) rewrote the song for acoustic presentation by anchoring it in the math-y guitar part i had just added to the final recording. this is a (rough) live demo that i made for sean to analyze. no actual recording with sean was created.

it's a tricky guitar part, and trickier to do while singing (which wouldn't have been necessary in a live setting).

obviously, a live version would have included sean singing his vocals rather than me reciting them. however, it would have included me singing harmonies at the end, which is what i trip into when the chords come in.

written sept 1-7, 2001 by jessica and sean. existing guitars doubled on oct 7, 2001 by jon. track rebuilt by jessica and jon to include reprise on oct 13, 2001. end section remixed by jessica on feb 10, 2002. remixed by jessica to remove reprise (but retain swells) and to include math-y guitar part in core section on may 3, 2002. rewritten for solo acoustic guitar by jessica on may 5, 2002. some minor digital editing of the solo acoustic guitar version was done by jessica on nov 19, 2014.

about

jessica murray Windsor, Ontario

this is the archive for the artist formerly known as jason parent and now known as jessica murray.

the music here has shifted dramatically over many years, from roots in punk/grunge through to experimental synth pop and into a type of kitchen sink post-rock with heavy electronics. the only consistency throughout is a lack of consistency, guitars and an impressionist aesthetic. "blender rock".
